Gwen Ottinger grew up in Frederick, MD and has recently relocated back to the area after fifteen years in Asheville, NC. While in NC, Gwen maintained a pottery studio as a hobby while teaching visual art and raising her two daughters. Happy to be settled in Frederick with a home studio, Gwen now works in clay full time, creating modern and functional pottery for daily use. Her work is inspired by a love of pattern, texture and space. Gwen creates all of the textural stamps employed in her work and has been using some for over 15 years while still creating fresh patterns for each season. Currently the work is finished in a limited glaze palette of white, French blue, cobalt, amber and aqua. The forms, glazing and firing of the work all contribute to ultimate functionality of each piece.
