papier mache Earrings by Susan Shaw
The Papier Alliance: Artists Working With Paper
Susan Shaw, Piermont, NY, has challenged the boundaries of papier mache with her colorful bowl making, building her bowls based on the knowledge of years of art making and formal educations in the Fine Arts. Now she challenges it once again, using papier mache, hand-colored papers, and free-form artistry, to create the most organic, unusual, vibrant, one-of-a-kind earrings--a must-have this holiday season, and for all seasons.
Susan, in search of a new medium found one--papier mache--that embraces both color and paper, she found the composition of papier mache a great fit and the circular bowl the perfect form for color and textual experimentation. Each new hand-made bowl and earring, is a creation, where all is considered: their basic shape, texture and color, and their inside and outside surfaces. These handmade bowls and earrings are made of layers of recycled paper products, natural fibers and glue, and coated with water-based lacquer.
Care instructions for your bowls and earrings: clean with a damp cloth and hand dry.
